A couple of weekends a go, my friend's daughter and I were discussing the great dim sum place we have here in town. I got a hankering for some pork buns and thought I'd see if I could make them myself. After searching for a recipe, I ended up combining elements of about three after reading various comments.
While the project originally started out with this in mind, when it went wrong, Zach's old shirt I had cut up for the skirt turned into a bolster pillow. I added some vintage ribbon embellishment where the pocket is, some blue seam tape around the opposite end and a yellow flower from some scraps and a button.
What I love about the pillow is that I could just unbutton the shirt's buttons to stuff it. I took the pillow to work today and used it on my tweaked lower back and it was nice. I love it when my crafty projects are useful. Also, I'm happy that I was able to turn a disaster into something that I like.
I decided my outfit today needed a touch of romance for this lovers' holiday. Remembering I had some wired pink ribbon with gold edging, I decided to fashion a belt out of the ribbon and fasten it with a cream flower pin I had sitting on my dresser. To my pleasant surprise, all of it went rather well with my purple dress, especially since I'm always nervous about mixing pink with purple. (The dress didn't look this rumply when I put it on this morning. This is after sitting at my desk all day and going out for dinner.)
The belt along with a pink ruffly sweater was just the thing to get in the spirit without decking myself out in red from head to toe.
This past week I roasted my first leg of lamb and since we have tons of leftovers to eat, we decided gyros would be a tasty way to make use of some of the lamb. We didn't have pitas in the house, but I had some wheat rye bread mix in the fridge. I pinched off a couple of hunks of that and rolled it thin and luckily they puffed in the oven and made perfect pitas. The wheat rye mix made for a denser pita which held up well to all the tzatziki sauce we like to put on our gyros.
