We've been remodeling our kitchen now for what seems like forever.  I guess that's what happens when you do it yourself.  A distinct advantage of doing it ourselves is that we save tons of money.  We also get the chance to use what we already have and see if we can't improve upon that before having to buy new.  That's what we did with the under part of our counters that face out into the dining area and our home's front entry.  We used some blue paint we already had and I think it helped to make the bottom look a lot cleaner and not so much like fake wood paneling anymore. I also love the pop of color it adds.  The rest of our kitchen is light blue and off white so this seems dramatic without too much of a commitment (it would be easy to repaint).  The decorative squares on the wall were $1/ 3 pack stickers are the craft store.  Again, another nice little pop of color with minimal commitment.  I have another set in a different color scheme in case I ever want to change them out.

In case you can't tell from the rash of posts today, I'm catching up for not having posted for a good part of October.  I've just been too busy doing which hasn't left a lot of time for blogging.

One of the distinct advantages of working for a nonprofit is the time off.  Yesterday was an office holiday, Veteran's Day, and with ample leave in reserve I made it a four day weekend.  Not that I had planned to, but by the end of yesterday I had started repainting the laundry area.  The color is bold and also clashes with the blue trimmed windows (not my doing).  So today is being spent finishing the walls and painting the window casings (which I hate doing).  I'll post pictures this evening once the painting is done.

I'm excited to hang a nice cedar clothes rod back there so clothes are hung up right out of the dryer and don't get wrinkly, finding a good full size ironing board (which may now be unnecessary) and getting a decent hamper that doesn't fall apart when its moved.  We've used the area as a house project staging place in the past, but no more, not after it's all spruced up.  Guess we'll just have to use the front (outdated) bathroom that's far down on the list of home remodeling to stage the projects that are higher on the list now.

We've been slowly remodeling our kitchen.  In order to get a sense of what we were getting into we took down part of the drop ceiling.  What we found were asbestos ceiling tiles, just like the original parts of the house.  Unfortunately, the tiles had been sacrificed for the installation of the drop ceiling sometime in the 1980s.  We've searched for a non-abestos version of the ceiling tiles to no avail.  It came to us this morning while flipping through our This Old House magazine that we should ask the restoration experts.  We'll let you know if we get an answer.  In the meantime, if you know where to find the replacement tiles, let us know.
