I've been on vacation now for a little over a week.  After a very brief trip home to Iowa and Zach returning to Anchorage, I drove to Denver where I met up with my friend Karen for a fun filled 5 days.  Now, I'm on my own road tripping through the southwest and going to places I've never been.  I drove from Denver to Durango today.  I saw a black tailed deer, coyote and tumble weed, plus the weather changed more than 25 degrees throughout the drive.  I even saw some new slush on the road, which seems to have done a car in that was flipped upside down on the side of the road.  I obviously got the hint and slowed way down.

Tomorrow, I'm headed to Moab, Utah.  Then finally on to New Mexico before trekking back to Nebraska to get Zach for my sister's wedding next weekend in northwest Iowa.  I've managed to find some hostels to stay at and the first one is really nice.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the others.

It's an interesting experience traveling with no real set plans or anyone else.  While I do go out of town on my own often for work, when I really don't have to be anywhere or do anything, it's a little different.  I like the slower pace and so far have managed to fend off boredom. I brought two books with me; one is already read and now I have the epic novel Don Quixote to read.  Given that I'm already tired from taking Karen to the airport before sunrise and then the drive, I think it and the beer I had with dinner will do the trick to put me out cold.  Here are some pictures from the trip so far.
