Front view. I love the kimono sleeves.
I started sewing a little crafter's smock from this book last May just after the successful completion of a few projects. I was overly ambitious in trying this one at the time since when I was sewing the sleeves I didn't understand the instructions and sewed the arm hole shut. Frustrated and not sure how to fix it, I folded up the project and stuck it on a shelf. It wasn't until just last week that my sewing skills caught up enough to fix this and not just let all that cute fabric go to waste.
Elastic collar so it can slip over the head.
I dug out the project, pulled out the under arm seam, the skill I'd been not very good at until recently (lots of fabric has been ripped along with the seams), and from there the rest of the project was fairly smooth sailing. I'm finding now that I know I can sew things better than before I'm not as willing to settle for just functional. That means a lot of do overs and seams ripped out, but if I don't do it, I'm not happy with the finished project.
This is the back. It's worn like a backward's shirt. I remember using my dad's old button downs for painting smocks.
I was glad to finish this project and get it to the little girl whose birthday it was for a couple of months ago. She loves butterflies and being creative, so I'm hoping this will get lots of use. I added the tag below with her initials and the birthday month and year (if it had been done on time) to personalize it for her.
